Adolescent Mental Health Treatment in Conyers, GA

Our adolescent programs serve teens ages 13 to 17 experiencing emotional distress, behavioral challenges, school difficulties, family conflict, trauma, substance use, or other mental health concerns.

Care built for how teenagers actually live

Adolescence is not simply a smaller version of adulthood, and treatment should not be either. Our care is developmentally appropriate, which means it accounts for where a teen is in terms of identity, independence, peer relationships, and brain development. Sessions are paced and framed so that a 14 year old can engage honestly rather than perform an answer they think an adult wants to hear.

Treatment also recognizes the essential role of parents, caregivers, schools, and other supportive adults. Family participation may be incorporated to improve communication, establish healthy boundaries, and strengthen support systems. Teens do not recover in isolation, and the households around them usually need support too.

Adolescent services may address:

  • Anxiety and depression
  • Trauma and grief
  • Anger and emotional-regulation concerns
  • School avoidance or academic difficulties
  • Peer and relationship challenges
  • Family conflict and self-esteem concerns
  • Impulsive or high-risk behavior
  • Substance experimentation or misuse
  • Healthy decision-making and coping skills

School stays in the picture

Falling behind academically makes almost every other problem harder, so our adolescent programming is scheduled with school in mind. Adolescent IOP typically runs in the late afternoon, for example Monday through Thursday from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM, so students can attend class during the day. Outpatient therapy sessions are scheduled around the school calendar as well.

With parental consent, we coordinate with school counselors, teachers, and support staff so that accommodations, attendance concerns, and behavioral plans reflect what is actually happening in treatment.

For parents and caregivers

Most families reach out somewhere between worried and exhausted. You do not need a diagnosis, a referral, or the right vocabulary to start. Our team will listen, ask a few practical questions, and help you understand which level of care makes sense.

Every adolescent begins with a clinical assessment that considers symptoms, safety, functioning, and family circumstances. From there we recommend outpatient therapy, our Intensive Outpatient Program, or a referral to a higher level of care if that is what the situation calls for. Teens who need detoxification, inpatient hospitalization, residential treatment, or continuous supervision will be connected with a more appropriate setting rather than placed in a program that cannot keep them safe.
