Level of Care

Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) in Conyers, GA

Our Intensive Outpatient Program provides a higher level of structure and clinical support than traditional weekly therapy, while allowing clients to continue living at home.

More support, without leaving home

IOP sits between weekly outpatient therapy and residential or inpatient treatment. Clients attend multiple structured sessions each week, then sleep in their own beds, keep their jobs, and stay present for their families. That combination is the point: skills practiced in group during the day get tested in real life the same evening.

IOP may be appropriate for individuals who need additional support following a hospitalization, residential treatment, crisis, relapse, or a significant decline in emotional or behavioral functioning. The program is designed to stabilize symptoms, strengthen coping skills, improve relationships, and increase personal accountability.

Virtual sessions available when clinically appropriate.

The program may include:

  • Multiple treatment sessions each week
  • Individual counseling and therapeutic groups
  • Family education and support
  • Psychiatric and medication-management services
  • Crisis and safety planning
  • Coping-skills and emotional-regulation training
  • Relapse-prevention education
  • Recovery and wellness planning
  • Coordination with schools, providers, and community resources

What a typical week looks like

Schedules vary based on each individual's clinical needs, but these are typical patterns.

Adult Mental Health IOP
Typically 3 days per week, approximately 3 hours per treatment day, about 9 to 12 hours weekly. Example schedules: Monday, Wednesday, Friday, 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM, or an evening program Monday, Wednesday, Friday, 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM.
Adult Substance Use Disorder IOP
Typically 3 to 5 days per week, approximately 3 hours per day, about 9 to 15 hours weekly.
Adolescent Mental Health IOP
Typically 3 to 4 afternoons per week, approximately 3 hours per day. Example: Monday through Thursday, 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM. Designed so students can attend school during the day.
Adolescent Substance Use IOP
Typically 3 to 4 days per week, approximately 3 hours per session, about 9 to 12 hours weekly.
Typical length of treatment
Most individuals participate for approximately 6 to 12 weeks, depending on clinical need and progress.

A step down, and a step forward

Many people arrive at IOP directly from an emergency department, an inpatient unit, a crisis stabilization unit, or a residential program. That transition is a vulnerable window, and it is where structured support matters most. Our team coordinates with the referring provider so that treatment continues without a gap and without the client having to retell their whole story from the beginning.

Others enter IOP from the other direction, stepping up from weekly outpatient therapy when symptoms intensify or a relapse occurs. Either way, IOP is a defined phase rather than a permanent placement. As clients stabilize, we plan a deliberate step down to outpatient care with a written aftercare and relapse-prevention plan.

Admission and fit

Admission is based on a clinical assessment that considers presenting symptoms, safety needs, functional impairment, medical necessity, and the individual's ability to participate successfully in a structured group program.

IOP is not an emergency service, and it is not a substitute for a higher level of care. Individuals who need detoxification, inpatient hospitalization, residential treatment, emergency medical care, or continuous supervision will be referred to a more appropriate setting. If you or someone you love is in immediate danger, call 911. For crisis support at any hour, call or text 988.
